In 2009, our Irrawaddy Regional Coordinator helped oversee the construction of 40 homes for persecuted religious communities in 9 villages in Bogale Township. 400 beneficiaries constructed a new village at the confluence of Bogale River and another tributary. People from 12 surrounding villages now enjoy clean water from our new village’s reservoir as most of the Irrawaddy delta region suffers from salt water intrusion.
May 2008 until May 2010, GCN members distributed relief aid to 20,000 victims of Cyclone Nargis. Our regional leader’s father was native to a village in Irrawaddy Delta’s Bogale Township and she quickly mobilized and coordinated relief teams to provide food, water and shelter with the help of the international community.
In June 2012 our Irrawaddy Coordinator worked with her neighbor Mr. Tun Myint to provide relief to his native Kyaukyphyu Township in Rakhine State. Our GCN volunteer teams provided aid to 5,000 Rakhine Buddhists, as well as to the Rohingya and Kaman Muslim communities.
